Electricity pylons in Austria
Electricity pylons in Austria
I will start this thread with two pictures of the 220 kV-line from Herbertingen (Germany) to Birs in Austria. The pictures were made at the parking lot of Pfänder summit near Bregenz.

Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
That line looks pretty low.
In winter time there'll easily be a metre or 3 of snow.

Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
It must be two circuits 220 kV. (Hoheneck-Bürs en Dellmensingen-Bürs)
Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
Aha near Bodensee.
This must be a German type of tower, Austria has it's own design of towers.

Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
Nice pictures of this old line! I don't know what the current situation is but the 220kV circuit looks disconnected at Herbertingen due to construction works.
Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
It's the famous old RWE "Nord-Süd-Leitung" from 1929, which once connected Austrian water power plants (Vorarlberger Illwerke near Bludenz) with Brauweiler substation near Cologne (coal power stations).
Austrian transmission tower design was basically introduced in 1943, when a 220 kV powerline was built to connect Ernsthofen substation near Linz with Vienna and later Czech Republic to Silesia (now Poland).
Re: Electricity pylons in Austria
Weet iemand wat er in Herbertingen omgebouwd wordt? Vreemd genoeg staat er niets over dit station op de Amprion website...
